Vice-Rector for Strategic Research Planning and Development, Professor Vassilios Anastassopoulos

Dimitrios Kalpaxis
Professor, Department of Biochemistry, School of Medicine

Dimitrios Kalpaxis was born in Moulki, Corinth in 1951. He is married and has two children. He studied Biology (1970-1974) and Chemistry (1975-1979) at the University of Patras. He was a post-graduate student in the School of Sciences of University of Patras from where he also received his PhD in 1981. He worked as a Research Fellow (1980-1982), Lecturer (1982-1986), Assistant Professor (1986-1996), Associate Professor (1996-2003) and Professor (2003-today) at the School of Medicine of the University of Patras. He has been a Visiting Scholar at the School of Medicine of Nurnberg University (1988, 1989) and Visiting Research Fellow at the Max-Plank Institute of Berlin (2000). He has given a series of lectures and seminars in Academic and Research Centers of Europe.

His research interests are focused on the Biochemistry field, in particular on the structural analysis of cartilage components, the kinetic analysis of dehydrogenases, the structure and function of the protein-synthesizing machine and the mechanism of action of antibiotics. He has published extensively in international journals of high impact factor and books, and has presented his research in various international conferences and workshops. He is member of the editorial board of the Open Enzyme Inhibition Journal, reviewer in 16 international journals, reviewer of research proposals submitted in national and international financial fora, and member of 6 scientific societies.

He has been director of the post-graduate Programme in Basic Medicinal Sciences of University of Patras (2006-2010), member of the Committee for Post-Graduate Studies (2006-2008), and member of the Research Committee ( 2007-2010) of University of Patras.

Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and Personnel, Professor Dimitrios Dougenis

Anna Roussou
Associate Professor, Department of Philology

Anna Roussou was born in Piraeus in 1967. She received her BA in Philology and Linguistics from the University of Athens (1984-1988), and her MA in Linguistics (1990) and her PhD (1994) from University College London (UCL). She worked as a Lecturer at the University of Wales, Bangor (Department of Linguistics, 1992-1998), and an Assistant Professor at the University of Cyprus (Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, currently Department of English Studies, 1998-2001). Since 2001 she has been teaching Linguistics at the Department of Philology, University of Patras. She has been a Visiting Scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Department of Linguistics and Philology, 1997, 2009), an Honorary Research Fellow at UCL (2006-2007), and has also given a series of lectures and seminars in Europe and the Americas.

Her research interests lie in Theoretical Linguistics and in particular in syntactic theory, (crosslinguistic variation-parameters); the interface of syntax with the lexicon, morphology and semantics; syntactic change, and language development. She has published extensively in major journals and books, and has presented her research in various international conferences and workshops. She is also the author of two books (Syntactic Change, Cambridge University Press [2003, in collaboration], and Complementizers, Patakis [2006]). She is the co-editor of the Journal of Greek Linguistics (Brill), member of the editorial boards of the journals Lingua and Snippets, and regular reviewer for other international journals and conferences.

Vice Rector for Financial Planning and Development, Professor Constantinos Ravanis

Christoforos Krontiras
Professor, Department of Physics

Christoforos Krontiras was born in Patras in 1958. He received his B.Sc. in Physics from the University of Patras in 1981 and then worked for four years in the Semiconductor Laboratory of the Technical Research Centre of Finland where he also completed his Ph.D. Thesis (Electrical properties of thin Metal-Si films (Silicides)) in 1989. His academic carrier began in 1992 when he was appointed as a Lecturer in the Department of Physics at the University of Patras. He has been serving the University of Patras as an academic instructor since then.

His academic work spreads over research, teaching, and administration. He is the author of over 100 publications in scientific journals and conferences. His research interests focus on the characterization of thin or ultrathin films of materials with a potential use in microelectronics (Si and Ge technology). He is also interested in the electrical characterization of composite materials. He is member of the Greek Physics Society. He was Deputy Head of the Physics Department for the period 2005-2007 and has been Acting Head of the Physics Department since 2007 (2007-2009, and 2009-2011).
